BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL AS SPACES ARE LIMITED

This is a one day course in East Sussex for complete beginners, those interested in bees who would like to know more before deciding whether beekeeping is for them, and those with a season’s experience, or so, already.

What is it about? Learn about the origins of the honeybee, its life cycle and how we manage bees for honey production and our own enjoyment at an informative one day session run by a friendly group of experienced beekeepers. During the day, as well as covering many topics about bees and beekeeping, you will have the opportunity to get hands on experience with live bees in our apiary at an optional session  called ‘Let’s Meet the Bees’ (weather permitting).

Where is it and when? The venue for the course is Arlington Village Hall in the middle of the pretty village of Arlington, about 3 miles west of Hailsham  in East Sussex. We will start at 9.30am and finish at about 4pm. Young people aged 12-16 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult..

What will I need to bring? We will provide veils for face protection but please wear long trousers and a non knitted long sleeved top. You will also need to bring a pair of Wellington boots and a pair of ‘Marigold’ gloves (household type) to stop your hands getting stung or sticky.

How much is it? The course costs just £30 per person, (EBKA and Sussex division members £15) including light lunch and refreshments. Accompanied young people, 12-16 years, free. Join Eastbourne Beekeepers Association on the day and get a £5 discount on your first year’s membership.

SAFETY! Please note that a very small proportion of people are seriously allergic to bee stings. If you are concerned about whether you might be one of them please consult your doctor before booking. We take reasonable steps to avoid stings but cannot guarantee that the bees will always behave as we would like them to.
